Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading all mechanical aspects of the project, including working with the consultant to finalise the HVAC design and ensure compliance, working on shop drawing development, managing related procurement activities, quality assurance (QA), and overall engineering within the mechanical discipline. This role will ensure clarity, technical accuracy, and seamless execution of the mechanical scope, effectively demystifying mechanical requirements for the project team and stakeholders.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading all mechanical aspects of the project across both the design and delivery phases. This includes coordinating closely with the consultant to finalise HVAC and other mechanical system designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and project requirements.

Key responsibilities will include leading the development and review of mechanical design, managing mechanical procurement activities, developing shop drawings, overseeing quality assurance (QA) processes, providing engineering support during construction and leading the commissioning process.

 

 

Desired Skills and Experience

Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with at least 5 years in Australia or New Zealand.
  • At least 2 years of direct site experience with a comprehensive understanding of construction processes.
  • Solid knowledge of HVAC systems, piping layouts, pumps, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical system commissioning procedures and functional performance testing.
  • Proven experience in managing suppliers and subcontractors to ensure performance, quality, and timely delivery.
  • Track record of process optimisation, delivering cost-effective outcomes while maintaining technical integrity.
  • Strong capability in analysing technical challenges, evaluating multiple solutions, and making informed decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimise existing processes, achieve cost efficiencies, and enhance performance.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in managing and responding effectively to changes in project scope.
  • Experienced in collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, clients, contractors, suppliers, and consultants.
  • Excellent communication skills, encompassing active listening as well as strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Technical skills:

  • Proficient in using drafting and markup tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam for reviewing and making minor revisions to mechanical drawings and layouts.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design and simulation software, such as CAMEL or similar tools used for HVAC load calculations and system analysis.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical system commissioning processes, including test and balancing procedures, controls integration, and performance verification.
  • Competent in managing digital workflows and document control platforms used in construction environments (e.g. Procore).
  • Practical knowledge of NCC, mechanical codes and standards applicable in Australia and New Zealand
  • Demonstrated capability in preparing Electrical for Mechanical works & Controls/ BMS works
  • Skilled in reviewing project specifications and drawings, with the ability to prepare RFIs, technical submittals, and design clarifications.
  • Strong understanding of Fire Rating works for the Mechanical services,
  • Experienced in commissioning activities, including preparation of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
