Take Ownership

This isn't a narrow site-based engineering role. You'll be a key technical leader on project sites, influencing engineering outcomes, quality standards, construction methodologies, and stakeholder engagement.

Job Description

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Project Civil Engineer plays a critical role in the planning, design, delivery, and oversight of civil works across construction projects in Honiara. You'll work closely with project teams, subcontractors, stakeholders, and Australian-based engineering specialists to ensure all civil works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

The role combines design coordination, technical leadership, construction supervision, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving in a fast-paced project environment.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & Design

  • Analyse civil engineering requirements considering technical, environmental, commercial, and operational factors.
  • Coordinate with Australian-based engineering teams to develop civil designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Support feasibility assessments and engineering reviews for proposed construction activities.
  • Contribute to practical, cost-effective, and sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure civil works integrate effectively with broader project requirements.

Construction Delivery

  • Supervise and oversee civil construction activities on site.
  • Manage subcontractors and site personnel to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Monitor progress, productivity, schedules, and project budgets.
  • Coordinate material selection, testing, procurement, and quality control activities.
  • Act as the primary civil engineering adviser for site-based construction teams.

Engineering Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Assess structural performance and engineering suitability of civil works.
  • Identify project risks and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Design and review works considering local environmental conditions, including severe weather events, seismic activity, flooding, and long-term durability requirements.
  • Promote sustainable construction practices and minimise environmental impacts where practical.

Quality, Compliance & Safety

  • Implement robust quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, change management documentation, and project reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, Australian standards, local regulations, and client requirements.
  • Champion a strong safety culture through proactive risk management and continuous improvement initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with project managers, subcontractors, consultants, and technical specialists.
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering advice to project teams.
  • Engage professionally with government representatives, client stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Support project success through effective communication, collaboration, and leadership.
